Celebrating Abilities: The History & Purpose of Disabilities Awareness Month

Every March, communities across the country recognize National Disabilities Awareness Month — a time dedicated to honoring the abilities, contributions, and stories of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

What began as a movement to raise awareness has grown into something much more meaningful: a celebration of inclusion, dignity, and opportunity. Disabilities Awareness Month reminds us that every person has value, potential, and the right to live a full and meaningful life.

At Caregiver, this message is at the heart of everything we do. Across all of our locations, we provide individualized supports that help people grow, connect, and thrive. You can learn more about the programs we offer on our Services page:

This year, our theme for March is “Every Ability. Every Story.”
Because every individual we support has a unique journey worth celebrating.

Throughout the month, we’ll be highlighting stories from across our markets:

Disability awareness is more than a month on the calendar — it’s a commitment we live every day.

Together, we celebrate abilities — in March and all year long.
