💙 Supporting Our IDD Community During the Government Shutdown

During a government shutdown, some federal services — such as SNAP benefits, housing assistance, and certain Medicaid operations — may be delayed or paused.

Essential services, including healthcare, emergency response, and direct support from Caregiver, will continue. Below are resources to help you stay informed and connected to local support options.

What May Be Affected

These interruptions are typically temporary, and most states have contingency plans in place.

Temporary delays may occur in:

  • SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefit funding
  • WIC (Women, Infants & Children) nutrition support
  • HUD housing payments or Section 8 renewals
  • Federal program reimbursements to state agencies
  • Some Medicaid billing processes (state-dependent)

Planning Ahead

Tips to Prepare

  • Keep a small stock of nonperishable foods and necessary medications.
  • Contact your local food bank or pantry early if you anticipate a need.
  • Review monthly bills and adjust spending where possible until benefits resume.
  • Stay connected with your support coordinator or Caregiver team for care continuity.
